Castle Schöneck
The Castle Schöneck was built in the 13th century and was the residence of the Sirs von Schöneck. In the year 1378 the castle was taken over by the Lords of Görz. Supposedly Oswald von Wolkenstein was born there. The inner area of the castle is not open to visitors.
Castle Ehrenburg
The Castle Ehrenburg/Casteldarne was the residence of the Sirs von Ehrenburg, which later were called von Künigl. It was built in the 12th century. During the 15th century the castle was extended and in the year 1512 it was extended again with the arcade yard. In the year 1732 it was converted into a baroque castle. The big hall, the bay windows, the wooden panelling and the paintings on the ceiling and also the castle chapel are very remarkable. The inner area of the castle is not open to visitors.
A very rare and interesting natural monument stands at the foot of an embankment next to the country road between Hofern and Issing near the bus stop in Mühlen/Molini in the Pustertal/Val Pusteria Valley.
There, a unique columnar spruce, also known as a garland spruce, rises up from the young growth. While the terminal shoot grows upright, the approx. 30 cm long side branches hang vertically downwards. The tree, which is around 85 years old (in 1991), reaches a height of a good 25 m (1991) and has a circumference of 34 cm (1991).
The columnar spruce is difficult to classify among the many columnar and hanging forms known to date. In any case, it is the narrowest spruce form ever found in Südtirol/South Tyrol and far beyond. These "lace spruces" are a result of the thinning effect of heavy snow loads.
To the Columnar spruceThe commander-in-chief and emperor L. Sept. Sev. Pius, Pertinax, conqueror of the Arabs, Adiabenes and Parthians, Maximus, high priest, for the ninth time in possession of the tribunician power, for the twelfth time consul, father of the fatherland, proconsul and emperor M. Aurelius, Pius, Augustus, for the fourth time in possession of the tribunician power, proconsul as well as P. P. Sept. Aurelius, Pius, Augustus, for the fourth time in possession of tribunician power, proconsul, and P. P. Sept. Geta, restored the milestone marked by age, with M. Iuventius, legate with propaedeutic power, in charge.
The distance from Agunt is 67 miles. The milestone of the Roman emperors Septimus Severus, Caracalla and Geta was found in 1928, walled into a field wall west of Ehrenburg at the foot of the Hinterbühel.
